Element 1: Definition of Rigging and Lifting
- Identify the risks associated in a rigging and lifting operation.
- Understand the requirements of applicable legislation to lifting and rigging operations.
- Recognize different types of lifting and rigging operations.
Element 2: Wire Rope Sling
- Master the different types of slings used in lifting and rigging operations, including wire rope slings.
- Inspection and correct use of wire rope in rigging operations.
- Understand the safety factor of lifting accessories and equipment.
- Protective slings to edges and nodes.
Element 3: Elements for Calculating and Sizing a Sling
- Calculate the SWL and WLL of slings.
- Understand elements for calculating and sizing a sling.
- Mechanical strength of equipment/accessories and their safety factor.
- Elements for calculating and sizing a sling for lifting and rigging operations.
Element 4: Lifting Equipment
- Understanding lifting equipment and accessories used in lifting and rigging operations.
- Examination and inspection of rigging and lifting equipment.
- Accessories and equipment used during lifting operations, including tirfors, chain blocks, pull lifts, and beam clamps.
- Safety factors related to lifting equipment.
Element 5: Chain Sling and Accessories
- Chain slings and accessories: types, features, and limitations.
- Chain sling inspection and correct usage.
- Maintenance of slings and accessories.
- Recommended rigging methods for different lifting tasks.
- Protection against abrasion using slings and accessories.
Element 6: Rigging Accessories & Case Study
- Identifying rigging accessories and their correct use in lifting operations.
- Using recommended rigging methods to move various items safely.
- The lifting plan, identifying, and marking lifting accessories.
- Precautions to be taken by the slinger during lifting operations.
- The gesture of command and control during lifting operations.
- Pre-use inspection and discarding equipment if needed.

Assessment Requirement
Participants are required to achieve 100% attendance. Assessment for this course consists of a written post‑test with a minimum passing score of 75%. Participants must achieve at least 75% to be considered competent and to receive the course certificate.
